We are based in Sunnyvale, CA. The name Buxfer is a combination of the words bucks and transfer (xfer, for short!)
Our goal is to create the best personal finance application on the web. Money is typically not the topic of discussion for a group of twenty-somethings wanting to have fun with their lives. But that's only because today's finance applications make it difficult and boring. That's what we have set about to change! We want people to effortlessly understand their finances. And have fun while doing so.

How It Started
While working on his Ph.D. at Carnegie Mellon University, Ashwin was immensely frustrated by the numerous IOUs hanging on his refrigerator. Dinner bills, rent, utilities, ski trips … the list went on. One day he decided to write a program to track all the IOUs for him and his group. It was so useful that all his friends wanted a copy of it. Tired of distributing copies (and subsequent updates) of this script, Ashwin decided to team up with fellow graduate student Shashank to develop a website. And thus was born Buxfer.
